| Question: |
Where does the name The Phonetic Peg Memory System come from? |
| Answer: |
The editors of The Number
Thesaurus
have coined the name in an
attempt to resolve the confusion and uncertainty surrounding the name of this
powerful memory system. The editors found seven different names under which the
same system has been recommended as one of the most effective systems for memory
improvement. While the name itself has nothing to do with the operation of the
underlying system, developing a descriptive name seemed, to the editors, to be a
sensible undertaking. (See Naming
Confusion.) |

| Question: |
How does The
Phonetic Peg Memory System work? |
| Answer: |
The Phonetic Peg Memory System is based upon ten of the strongest
phonetic sounds produced by consonants in the English language. By converting
each digit of a number into a consonant sound, words and phrases can be formed
that enable an individual to associate the newly found word or phrase with the
number. It is generally considered to
be easier to recall words, especially
when they are associated with another
object in some meaningful way, than it
is to recall a string of random
numbers. The predecessor
to this ingenious system was first devised over 350 years ago. A complete
description of the operation of the system is contained in the Introduction. |
